Zion National Park is easily one of the most beautiful parks in the entire NPS system. It is located in Southwestern Utah near Springdale, and within easy driving distance of Las Vegas, NV.
It's 229 square miles capture over 5,000 feet of elevation change and dramatic hiking trails that showcase its red and tan Navajo Sandstone. In fact, the hike to Angels Landing is one of the most stunningly beautiful hikes in the United States. And it's not for the faint of heart as it winds up steep switchbacks and across the edge of a very narrow ridge line that is a mere 4 feet across in places. A chain is installed but it should be taken slowly and only in dry conditions.
The reward is a view of Zion Canyon, carved by the Virgin River, from 1,500 feet above it. It's a bucket list hike and one that you will never forget.
Other activities include horseback riding, camping and rock climbing and you are in easy striking distance of Utah's other amazing National Parks.
Lodging is available inside the park and in nearby communities such as Hurricane and St. George.
Don't pass up the opportunity to eat at the nearby Thunderbird restaurant in Mt. Carmel junction. Home of the famous "Ho-made pies".
